About The Site
Hi, my name is Anirudh Gitai.
I'm a writer who loves great stories. I've experienced so many amazing ones that left an impact in big and small ways. Each one enriched my life in unique and powerful ways.
Our time is limited. Finding worthwhile things can be annoying. That's why I share the truly special ones. Anything I write about is either at least worth a watch or should be actively avoided.
Each article also follows these rules:
- Spoiler-free: I avoid discussing the plot as much as possible.
- Details: I share how long the experience is and where you can find it.
- Experience: I talk about my experience, what I liked, and why it mattered to me.
Now allow me the honor of sharing some key ideas.
Reviews Don't Help
I don't review or give ratings here for two reasons:
- Art is Subjective. I only share my perspective. If it resonates, you might agree.
- The Moving Goal-post. Breaking Bad is the best thing you've ever seen...
...until you watch Better Call Saul. Comparison can be useful.
But assigning exact numbers to art? Not so much.
Instead, I use adjectives, analogies, & associations. Describing my emotions, where a story took me, the best mood to dive into something, who I think it's for, and why I loved/hated it; hopefully, you'll find this more helpful in choosing better things.
Defining Excellence
What makes something good? To me, it must be:
- Passionate: Filled with love, intention, and authenticity. Did someone believe in it?
- Useful: Value is beautiful. A great story needs to make a positive difference in my life.
- Memorable: Impact stays, even when time fades. If it stays with me for years, it matters.
- Transcendent: Takes me on a transformative journey within & beyond my heart, mind, & soul.
I define it as "A selective recreation of reality with transporting power." As in, it transports you to places inside the human experience. A grief-stricken parent, a power-hungry predator, or a lonely child all exist in a specific life condition.
Through stories, you and I can get a glimpse of it all.
Why Bother?
Stories can be simple, mindless fun for all of us at some point or another. They can feel like mere content to be consumed. At best, a helpful escapism. At worst, a guilty pleasure.
"Isn't it better to live your life and make stuff happen? Shouldn't we get out there and write our own stories instead?"
That's fair. But you don't have to choose one or the other. You don't have to be perfect just to be happy.
We can all find a deeper, more fulfilling sense of love, meaning, and wonder, right where we are. We can be more resilient and powerful. But we can't do it alone.
Great stories let us sharpen our saws. They help us connect with other people. They help us make sense of ourselves, what happens to us, and the world at large. With them, we can take breaks and come back stronger than ever.
Without them, we might as well be strangers, alien to each other, scattered across the tower of Babel.
Even the best stories may not be as good as real life. But they certainly help improve your life.
So try something out, you might enjoy it!
